Column formwork is a key requirement in many construction projects

One of the challenges surrounding column forming is the concrete pressure which is considerably higher than when forming standard wall applications.

Factors such as column height, the availability of on-site equipment such as cranes, the required finish, the speed of pour and the number of columns that need to be constructed can all influence the best system for your project.

From bespoke to modular systems, Altrad RMD can help support your project no matter what, covering rectangular, square, circular or irregular shaped column forming.

Key considerations

  • Pour rates of heavy-duty systems
Heavy-duty systems with no pour rate restrictions are ideally suited for forming large and very tall columns with high concrete pressures. These will typically need a crane and cannot be manhandled by on-site workers. However, they can deliver faster column forming, as the formwork can be instantly filled with concrete, from the bottom to the top.
  • Pour rates of light to medium-weight systems
In contrast, light to medium-weight systems may mean you’re more restricted on pour rates for column forming, but these systems are light enough to be set by hand on-site. As a result, these are a more cost-effective option for contractors should these systems meet your column formwork demands.
