Civil engineering and groundworks contractors, CPC Civils, required a 10-metre deep excavation to facilitate the installation of a new replacement pipeline.

This launch pit shaft would be the initial stage of a tunnelling project under the Shropshire Union canal on the Peckfoproduct-type/ground-shoring/rton to Coopers Green Resilience Scheme, for Severn Trent Water.

The contractor required a shaft excavation solution that would ensure maximum safety and efficiency on site. In short, a trustworthy partner was needed. That’s why CPC approached RMD Kwikform to supply its new ground shoring fleet.

As the only supplier in the market that offers a fully CE-marked ground shoring fleet, it gave the team confidence that the shaft excavation equipment had been designed and manufactured to the highest level of European standards.

RMD Kwikform supplied over 550 pieces of equipment to the site for the shaft excavation, including products from its GeoBrace hydraulic framing and Tubeshor propping system. This solution is the first hydraulic bracing system with a mechanical lock-off system and features seven varying lengths of leg extension.

Designed specifically for large excavations, the prop can span up to 30 metres and will support up to 3000 kN in horizontal applications. All of the ground shoring equipment has been designed using Finite Element Analysis and boasts additional stands and stops to ensure the safe handling, assembly and dismantling of equipment.
