Our apprenticeship programme is designed to provide first-hand experience, mentorship, and the support needed to build a successful career in the construction industry. Here, we highlight the experiences of four of our budding apprentices: Marks Kumelins, Glebs Gusevs, Miguel Marialva, and Kayleigh Dale.
Marks Kumelins – Finance Apprentice
Marks’ journey into finance has been one of discovery and growth. His apprenticeship has allowed him to build essential skills while gaining a deep understanding of the profession. Reflecting on his experience so far, he shares:
“My apprenticeship is going really well - it has provided a great insight into what it means to be an accountant through various opportunities provided to me within RMD such webinars, training courses and a friendly atmosphere allowing me to ask for help whenever necessary. I am glad I decided to switch to an apprenticeship instead of university as I find it far more educational and hands-on than what I was learning in university with many more opportunities to learn in various applications within the role.”
Marks’ story highlights how apprenticeships go beyond traditional learning, offering direct industry experience and valuable career development opportunities.
Glebs Gusevs – Engineering Apprentice
For Glebs, choosing an apprenticeship was about balancing theory with real-world application. His role has provided him with hands-on exposure to the industry while supporting his academic studies:
“I have always been interested in the apprenticeship route; it allows me to gain experience whilst still pursuing my university degree. The apprenticeship has allowed me to learn a lot about the industry and I really enjoy working with my colleagues. I have been supported throughout my education with additional learning time, and I have been introduced to the Institute of Civil Engineers where I can pursue additional qualifications.”
Glebs’ experience showcases how apprenticeships can be tailored to complement academic learning while providing a pathway for career development and industry qualifications.
Miguel Marialva – Engineering Apprentice
Miguel’s apprenticeship has been defined by collaboration and hands-on learning. Working alongside experienced professionals has given him insight into the industry and helped him develop key technical skills:
“My apprenticeship at Altrad RMD Kwikform has been a truly rewarding journey so far. The opportunity to be working alongside skilled professionals from the industry has been an incredible experience. One of the things I value most is the fact my colleagues take the time to explain complex concepts, share their insights, and provide guidance whenever I need it. Their support has been instrumental in helping me develop my skills and confidence within the field. I’m looking forward to continuing my development and contributing to the success of the team.”
Miguel’s story highlights how valuable mentorship and collaboration are in the apprenticeship experience, ensuring that apprentices gain not only technical skills but also the confidence to succeed in their careers.
Kayleigh Dale – Marketing Apprentice
Kayleigh’s apprenticeship has allowed her to turn creativity into a career. The hands-on nature of her role has given her the opportunity to develop her skills while making a meaningful impact:
“I chose the apprenticeship route because I wanted to gain hands-on experience while enjoying the security of a job. So far, it’s been an incredibly rewarding decision. I’ve been given the freedom to let my creativity flourish, with my ideas always being valued and considered. I’m also fortunate to be part of a supportive team who not only recognise my efforts but also encourage me to push myself further, helping me reach my full potential with their positivity and belief in my work.”
Kayleigh’s experience demonstrates how apprenticeships can offer a platform for creativity and growth.
