The project was led by main contractor BBMV, a joint venture between ALPINE BeMo Tunnelling, Balfour Beatty, Morgan Sindall and VINCI Construction.
Complete demolition and replacement of the original structure was not an option due to the myriad of shops, services and tunnels below the site, which sits above Liverpool St Elizabeth line entrance lobbies.
Redundancy established from the original as-built records enabled reuse of the foundations, an additional four floors to the existing refurbished eight storeys and the opening up of the basement for commercial use.
Our Engineering Team work on solutions like this every day. Being recognised for the hard work and innovative designs makes it all worthwhile.
Gary Ralph, Regional Director, Altrad RMD Kwikform
Works involved:
The lowering of the existing basement to both the North and South buildings
Construction of North Core to a Special finish from basement to 11th floor (13 levels)
Construction of 800mm radius column, double height and single height to special finish bottom up pumped with self-compacting concrete, encasing existing 500mm square concrete encasement to steel columns
The Altrad RMD Kwikform Engineering team designed Heavy Duty Access towers, each 29m high
These towers used Megashor legs with Super Slim bracing with a Rapidshor stair tower external of the stair shaft
The engineering team could not anchor into the special finish walls so the tower had to have the stability needed. Megashor was the only system that had the strength and suitability in this application.
