The product was developed with Altrad RMD Kwikform (Altrad RMDK) customers to provide equipment that would improve cycle times and reduce labour costs on a wide range of construction projects. Its safety features have also helped it become one of the most popular items in the Altrad RMDK product portfolio, being used on six UK projects since its launch 14 months ago, with many more prospects now in the pipeline both at home and overseas.
Commenting on the award winning system, Altrad RMDK Engineering Director and the Ascent product development team leader, Ian Fryer said: “Ascent has been recognised in several industry awards since its launch over a year ago for its innovation and improved site safety. Whilst it has received critical acclaim at each, to be the outright winner of an award is a tremendous achievement for myself and the rest of the team that worked on the design of the Ascent safety screen. Particularly satisfying was the fact that the system was rewarded for safety, improved efficiency and commercial viability – three key specifications we kept in mind throughout the design process.”

Edge protection
The Ascent safety screen provides edge protection and vertigo reduction for operatives, creating a sealed envelope around the top levels of hi-rise construction and prevents debris from falling – something it was praised for in its use on construction sites in busy city centres. It also shields operatives working at height from strong winds and driving rain and acts as a fully printable media for developers or third parties to advertise, potentially offsetting the cost of using the screen system.
Host of benefits
Ian Fryer continued: “Ascent provides users with many benefits including full off-site preassembly which greatly improves site logistics and eliminates the site make-up area – just what users need for city centre locations.
Development of this innovative product, carried out entirely at our Aldridge headquarters, was driven by the needs of our customers and the input I received from the rest of the engineering team proved invaluable in making Ascent the best it could be.
I’m looking forward to seeing it in use on future construction projects across the UK and continuing to develop it as a global product. The next projects up are three large tower blocks in San Francisco!”
