RMD Kwikform designed and supplied a formwork and shoring solution for the construction of five circular wall tanks at the facility.
The Burringbar Mooball wastewater treatment plant is an $8.3 million development that serves more than 180 properties in Burringbar and Mooball via a gravity connection or a small household pump. It replaced an older plant in the area which was deemed no longer fit for purpose.
The treatment plant has allowed multiple individual septic systems to be disconnected, improving the environmental quality of aquifers and surface waters and reducing odour and potential health risks.
The five tanks comprised an overflow storage tank, two reactor tanks, a balance tank and a site pump station. RMD Kwikform was tasked with providing a solution to cater for each application.
RMD Kwikform ensured that the best solution was provided for the various tanks. Working alongside the main contractor, Quickform Constructions Pty Ltd, we supplied a solution for the first two tanks, consisting of a shuttering system constructed from Superslim Soldiers, RHS beams and vertical LVL with two layers of 6mm plywood on the face.
We also supplied our heavy-duty Strongshor shoring system which was used with the client’s plywood and LVL to construct the concrete roof of the pump station. RMD Kwikform also supplied equipment for larger 4.8 m high forms for the construction of the balance tank.
The two reactor tanks, which have a diameter of 7.45 metres and a height of 2.2 metres, were poured using RMD Reflex panels. The preassembled galvanised circular wall formwork system is capable of withstanding up to 60 kN/m2 and provided the perfect solution as it could be accurately adjusted to meet the exacting standards required for each tank.
The most significant part of the project, the overflow storage tank, was completed last and required extra panels to be sent to site to meet its 4.5 metre wall height. The solution for constructing this higher tank was to use two 2.4 metre Reflex panels connected on top of each other.
“In working with RMD Kwikform on the wastewater treatment facility, we have been able to utilise its expertise in providing bespoke formwork and shoring solutions to cater to the exact needs of the project.
“Coupled with its excellent on-site support, RMD Kwikform was able to demonstrate flexibility and innovation,” Chris Bien of Quickform Constructions Pty Ltd commented.
Frank Sulentic, RMD Kwikform’s Gold Coast Branch Manager, commented: “Playing a key role in what is a landmark development for the Mooball community is hugely satisfying, allowing us to showcase both our design expertise and logistical capabilities.

Due to changes in design and cost restrictions, a bespoke solution had to be reached in an extremely short timeframe, all without going over budget.
